According to a statement released through The Carter Center on Friday, former first lady Rosalynn Carter has entered hospice care at her Georgia home.
The big picture: In May, 96-year-old Rosalynn was given a dementia diagnosis. Jimmy Carter, the 99-year-old former president, started receiving hospice care earlier this year.
Their words: “She and President Carter are spending time with each other and their family,” the couple’s grandson Jason Carter stated in a statement released on Friday through the Carter Center on X.
“The Carter family continues to ask for privacy and remains grateful for the outpouring of love and support,” stated Jason Carter.
Pinch out: The oldest sitting US president, Jimmy Carter, along with Rosalynn made an uncommon public appearance in September at their hometown of Plains, Georgia, for the Plains Peanut Festival.
According to Josh Carter, their grandson, the pair has been in a “different era” because various health issues have necessitated changes in their lives, as he told People in August.
Rosalynn, according to Josh, “… still knows who we are, for the most part — that we are family,” according to the transcript.
