This Simple Hack Will Keep Your Orchid Alive Longer

Orchids are beautiful and elegant flowers, but they can be tricky to keep alive. Here's a simple hack that will help your orchid live longer:

Instead of watering your orchid with a watering can or spray bottle, try using ice cubes. Just place a few ice cubes on the top of the potting mix and let them melt slowly.

Slow release of water: The ice cubes will melt slowly, giving the orchid time to absorb the water before it evaporates. This helps to prevent overwatering, which can damage the roots.

Cool temperature: The ice cubes will help to cool the roots of the orchid, which is important for its health. Orchids prefer cool temperatures, and the ice cubes will help to keep them happy.

Mineral-free water: As the ice cubes melt, they will release mineral-free water, which is better for orchids than tap water. Tap water can contain minerals that can build up in the potting mix and damage the roots.

Place a few ice cubes on the top of the potting mix. Let the ice cubes melt completely. Water the orchid only when the potting mix is almost dry. Repeat steps 1-3 as needed.

Avoid overwatering: Orchids are more susceptible to root rot from overwatering than underwatering. It is better to let the orchid dry out slightly between waterings.

Use a humidity tray: Orchids prefer high humidity. You can create a humidity tray by placing a tray filled with water and pebbles under your orchid pot.

Remove spent blooms: Once the blooms on your orchid have faded, cut them off at the base of the stem. This will encourage the orchid to produce new blooms.
